Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) imaging is an analytical chemistry research technology used to analyse the physical and chemical composition of materials. It is used, in particular, in university and hospital laboratories and in the food, biology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
Liquid helium is required to cool down the NMR magnet and liquid nitrogen can be used to absorb heat from outside the magnet and reduce the helium boil off rate.
